Information on Asbestos

There are three main types of asbestos still found in existence across the UK - commonly called ‘blue asbestos’ (crocidolite), ‘brown asbestos’ (amosite) and ‘white asbestos’ (chrysotile). All of these types of asbestos are dangerous however ‘blue’ and ‘brown’ asbestos are more hazardous than white. Other less common types found are fibrous anthophyllite, fibrous actinolite and fibrous tremolite.

Due to the hazardous nature of asbestos, legislation is in place regulating how asbestos is to be dealt with, handled and disposed of. The Control of asbestos at work Regulations 1987 (amended in 2002) introduced obligations in relation to asbestos contained within work places placing key responsibility on the duty holder. If asbestos is discovered, stop work immediately and seek expert advice. REMEMBER it is YOUR responsibility to protect your employees and yourself. Weybridge Skips are authorised for asbestos disposal and can be contacted for further information.
